Table Tennis

England North and England West Midlands shared the honours with two gold medals apiece in the table tennis competition.

The overwhelming favourite for the boy's title, Paul Drinkhall, who competed at his first Commonwealths in Melbourne, also finished as a double UK School Games gold medallist when he beat his England North teammate Daniel Reed in the final. England North took the team gold medal.

In the girl's individual event Kelly Sibley from the West Midlands took her second UK School Games gold medal, overcoming one of her biggest rivals, two times Welsh Commonwealth Games team member Naomi Owen.

In the girl's team event West Midlands beat the South East in the final.

Swimming

England South East stormed to team victory in the pool winning 13 gold, six silver and eight bronze medals at the swimming competition at Tolcross Pool.

Leading the celebrations was middle distance specialist Jonathan Quinn, who took a hat-trick of titles in the 400metres individual medley, 400metres freestyle and 4x200metres freestyle relay events.

Scotland West and North also saw a double victory for Rebecca Hillis in both the 100metres and 200metres breaststroke races whilst Louisa Farrer-Fisher gave England South West something to cheer about as she was crowned the day's top performer, with four gold medals won in the 100metres and 200metres freestyle races and 4x100metres and 4x200metres freestyle relays.

In the multi-disability events, 12-year-old Elizabeth Simpkin showed impressive potential with gold in the 100metres backstroke and 100meters butterfly events as well as a bronze in the 100metres freestyle as she added to England North's tally.

Gymnastics

Men's and women's artistic gymnastics saw competitors in teams from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

The stars of the show were Olivia Bryl of Wales who won the women's all-around competition and England's Reiss Beckford who took gold in the men's all-around.

In a competitive team event England managed to pip the Wales teams to both the men's and women's titles, due in part to a great display by the England men's team who took all of the top three individual honours.

Fencing

England narrowly missed out on a clean sweep of the gold medals with a dominant display over two days of the fencing competition at the Scotstoun Leisure Centre winning 11 gold medals out of a possible 12.

The Scottish men's epee team were the only ones to deny their English counterparts the gold, spurred on by a fabulous display from Chris Harding.

Amongst the stunning English performances, Alex Crutchett took double gold in the Mens Sabre competitions.

Other winners in the individual competition were Tom Potterton in the Men's Foil, Sophie Williams in the Women's Sabre, Ben White in the Men's Epee, Abbi Matthews in the Women's Epee and Laura Delaney in the Women's Foil.

Athletics

THE athletics programme was filled with a host of impressive performances including a stunning new British Under 17 record of 52.15seconds in the men's 400m hurdles for Nathan Woodward of the West Midlands team.

Ashlee Nelson underlined her position as one of the best young female sprinters with a win in the women's 100m.

And Scottish supporters were cheered by a new national record of 65.44m in the men's hammer from Chris Bennett.

Richard Kilty from the North East continued his thrilling rivalry with the South East's Olufunmi Sobodu, taking the tape in the 100m by one hundredth of a second.

West Midlands top the gold medal table in the athletics winning seven golds.
