Olympic Gold Medallist and UK School Games Ambassador Jason Gardener was on hand to talk to the Young Ambassadors about his role and how they can support him in ensuring that young people from the Bath and Bristol area are inspired to get involved in this major sporting event.
Gardener commented: “I am delighted to be invited here today to work with this group of Young Ambassadors who will be playing a huge part in the promotion of the games locally in the lead up to the event.
“I am proud that the UK School Games will be held in my home region and it is fantastic to have a team of motivated Young Ambassadors on-hand to support me in my role as UK School Games Ambassador.”
In addition to being involved in pre-event work, the Young Ambassadors will also be attending the event over the four days to support the team of athlete ambassadors who will attend the games to encourage and support the competitors. Their role will vary from day to day but will include involvement in VIP tours, working with the media and supporting the team within the athlete village.
The twelve Young Ambassadors were involved in a series of workshops throughout the day which gave them an insight into the event and their role, whilst also providing them with valuable media tips to support them whilst at the games in August. In addition the team committed to undertaking a number of activities in their schools to promote the games locally to other young people. Activities include website articles, organisation of festivals and regular updates on the school radio.
The team will be supported in the lead up to the event and whilst at the event by one of last year’s Young Ambassadors Jasmine Scott.
Jasmine said: “Being part of the ambassador team at the UK School Games last year was an amazing experience and I am really excited to be asked to work with the team at this year’s event.
“The UK School Games has changed my outlook on sport and sports participation. It was fantastic to be part of such a major sporting event and to see so many young people performing at an elite level. I am really looking forward to my role as Young Ambassador Manager and being given the opportunity to be a role model for other young people.”
