The University of the West of England, Bristol – Centre for Sport, which will play host to Badminton and Hockey for UK School Games 2008,  is to be included in the Guide for National Olympic Committees (NOCs) for the Olympic sports of Badminton, Fencing, Table Tennis, Indoor Volleyball and Wrestling. The University is also working closely with London Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games to have our international standard, brand new Hockey facilities included in the guide.

It demonstrates the high quality of our sporting facilities, and associated facilities, well trained staff, and the excellent offer we are able to make to those teams who choose to come here. We are also playing host to the UK School Games this summer, a further endorsement of our facilities.

“UWE is a key stakeholder in the sport network across the West of England and following the development of the new Centre for Sport and the FIH international standard all-weather pitch we are confident that both the UK School Games this summer and the role we can play in the lead up to the London 2012 Games will be a success. We have built up excellent relationships with the national governing bodies of all the sports identified and along with UWE's sports facilities, 2,000 residences and hospitality facilities on campus, we are now able to provide an excellent location for training camps and competition.”
