Sainsbury's UK School Games : Welfare

The UK School Games wants to ensure that not only do all participating athletes enjoy their experiences and perform well but they do so in a safe environment.

Working with the Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU), the UK School Games has a Welfare Plan that is annually developed in order to reflect the needs and support given by the host city but that also;

• Supports the sharing of best practice and education in safeguarding practice, and
• Raises the standards in safeguarding practice and welfare planning for events across the sports sector.

As the UK's finest elite young athletes descend on the North East of England today for the Sainsbury's UK School Games, more than 150 local schoolchildren honoured their arrival with a special dance performance.

The long awaited 2010 Sainsbury's UK School Games gets underway tomorrow morning in the North East of England with a launch event in Performance Square at The Sage with Olympic gold medallist Darren Campbell and Chief Executive of the Youth Sport Trust Steve Grainger. Spectators will be entertained by children from Gateshead, collectively known as Dance Bites, taking part in a contemporary dance performance inspired by the 10 sports represented in the Sainsbury's UK School Games.
