The Youth Sport Trust is a charitable organisation created in 1994. Our mission is to build a brighter future for young people by enhancing the quality of their physical education (PE) and sporting opportunities.
We want young people to have the chance to experience and enjoy different types of activity at whatever level is right for them. We want to ensure youngsters receive the best teaching, coaching and resources possible and have the chance to progress if they show talent. Above all, we want to help our young people to live healthy and active lives and to be the best they can be.
The Youth Sport Trust helped to create the UK School Games, which first took place in 2006 and is responsible for the development and organisation of the Games. The UK School Games is a key aspect of the systemic change that is occurring to the landscape of competitive sport for young people in the UK. A regional qualifying pathway is developing in a number of the UK School Games sports connecting the UK School Games four day event to the national network of Competition Managers. The Youth Sport Trust also works on a number of initiatives for Gifted and Talented young people for example, the National Talent Orientation Camp, a residential event to help talented athletes to balance both sporting and academic success, as well as helping School Sport Partnerships manage the Junior Athlete Education framework.
The UK School Games is part of the Culture and Education Programme taking place in the Athletes' Village, providing an excellent opportunity to extend the impact of the event to create an innovative learning environment. This programme has included simulation doping control, Q & A sessions with Olympic/Paralympic medallists, and bespoke support for 'Performance Parents'.
