On the eve of the Sainsbury's UK School Games 2010 the competing athletes are undertaking their last minute preparations before the Games commence.

The long awaited 2010 Sainsbury's UK School Games gets underway tomorrow morning in the North East of England with a launch event in Performance Square at The Sage with Olympic gold medallist Darren Campbell and Chief Executive of the Youth Sport Trust Steve Grainger. Spectators will be entertained by children from Gateshead, collectively known as Dance Bites, taking part in a contemporary dance performance inspired by the 10 sports represented in the Sainsbury's UK School Games.

In the lead up to the Sainsbury's UK School Games this Thursday we are looking at some of the athletes who are competing in this year's events. Across the weekend there are ten sports taking place in Gateshead, Newcastle and Sunderland, one which is, fencing which is being held at the Sunderland Silkworth Community Pool, Tennis and Wellness Centre.

The Sainsbury's UK School Games 2010 commences this Thursday, so with only two days to go we bring you the final five athletes competing at this year's events.

It is one week today until the Games officially commence. To mark the lead up to the events we are looking at some of the competing athletes at this year's Sainsbury's UK School Games. Today we introduce you to gymnastics hopeful, Jay Thompson.
